This project will explore the suitability of novel recyclable epoxy systems based on a recently reported crosslinker and standard epoxy resins for the manufacture of fibre-reinforced epoxy composite laminates and plastic mouldings. Equivalence of performance to conventional epoxy composite materials will be investigated, along with a proof-of-concept study on recyclability of the produced composite materials and recovery of the constituent fibres and polymer matrix. Lastly, dedicated mussel-inspired functional coatings for the produced epoxy composites will be explored, aiming to tailor surface chemistry and optimise composite performance, and ultimately suitability for targeted uses in the areas of renewable energy and coastal engineering.
